embracing imperfection

The third of the raw edge small quilts, this one is comprised of small black background squares.
This was one of early improvisational pieces where I also practiced becoming comfortable with the idea of imprecise placement and angling of squares.

  3. what a colorful little piece this is. i am always drawn to little squares inside of bigger squares. i'm working on a piece similar to this by stitching a collection of "inchies" to bigger squares. so FUN! oh, and imperfections should be celebrated!!

  4. Well, none of us is perfect, so why should we expect our work to be perfect? Really like those squares.

  7. Stretching of comfort zones is always good! I love this piece. It looks like there are different textures in the background; is it? Did you piece together the background first and then applique the squares, of did you make it block by block?

  8. Hi Deborah - until I read this post, I'd never realized I'm not, yet, comfortable with the idea of random placement. I'm going to have to try this and soon!

I really love it the way you work with imperfection. And I know it is so hard to let go of perfection.
