snow stitching

It snowed all day yesterday. I worked on a few nine-patch squares and the hearts from the illusion of love piece.

This is what my erosion bundle looked like after the weekend snow but before yesterday's snow.

snow-capped erosion bundle

This one will probably be made into a brooch.

eyes of the heart

"It is only with the heart that one can see rightly; what is essential is invisible to the eye. " ~ Antoine de Saint-Exupery

An unexpected drive out to Chester County to deliver a forgotten item.

While there, I took a photo of a quilt I made many years ago. It's a little faded but will be coming home soon since the office where it is currently displayed will be relocating in a few weeks.

illusions of love

This is where I am on the project I started a couple of weeks ago.  I've added a row of paper hearts from a weeded novel rescued a few year ago from the discard pile. This isn't necessarily the final arrangement but I am inclined to place them in rows of similar hearts rather than mixing them up like regular patchwork. Interestingly, the title of the novel is Illusions of Love.

stitching in red

I've practiced stitching in red on a couple of hearts.

Experimented with more paper-stitching, and have started making them full, dimensional, slightly stuffed hearts using vintage bits of fabric and buttons.

woven text

Fabric strips woven into a page from a Greek translation of The Iliad. Another rustic heart.

one secret spot

I've been working on a variety of hearts. This one is similar to the white sampler and is comprised of fabric, paper, beads, buttons and lace. It's a rustic piece with raw edges and I did enjoy making it.

Earlier today I came across this quote by poet Louise Driscoll: "Within your heart, keep one still, secret spot where dreams may grow."

This is another view.  It is extremely cold here today.

autumn hearts wip progress

Still working on autumn hearts, which I really think of as pumpkin hearts. It's a slow process since everything is done by hand but it is also enjoyable.

800 miles and autumn hearts wip

Riding in the car for a round trip total of over 800 miles resulted in quite a bit of progress on the small autumn hearts quilt project. Twelve hearts were appliqued, and eight of them have been outlined in an embroidery stitch.

hearts on my mind part four

For the long journey home to the mountains of my past, some pumpkin-colored hearts (although you can't tell from the photograph) to applique and embellish.

hearts on my mind part three

This not yet appliqued and yet to be pieced wip includes hearts and, according to the template, scrappy stars. Dalla is watching me take photographs.

hearts on my mind part two

This one was made a bit later, and combines both old and new fabric.

hearts on my mind part one

For almost two weeks now hearts have been on my mind. This is an early small quilt, actually it was a doll quilt for my oldest daughter. The fabric is vintage and I made a similar quilt in lavendar for a little girl she used to play with.
