No, I haven't given up quilting but lately I have been making necklaces. Here are a couple I finished this past weekend. Most of this summer I seem to have been "stuck" in terms of creating, particularly in terms of making quilts. Giving myself permission to not make quilts has given me the freedom to "dabble" with the beads, wire and other found objects. (My husband calls them trinkets.)
My jewelry-making and quilt-making processes are similar and seem to include:
- searching for interesting objects and materials
- reading books and blogs for inspiration
- taking notes and recording ideas although not usually sketches of any particular design
- assembling a selection of materials and tools and then just playing around with them.

I love looking for the found things! when I made collectible bears I was always l@@king for things to have them have.. Fun!
You forgot to mention:
* completely losing myself
* Enjoying myself immensely
Beautiful trinket :)
Giving yourself permission to not make quilts - I like that (the trinkets too...)
They are just beautiful!
Those necklaces are so pretty! Well done!
He can call them trinkets But I call them beautiful!
These necklaces are gorgeous! I love the colors you choose and the metal work, the loops, the chain, whatever you do to get the links together, it looks so nice!
I think I would call them trinket treasures:) Sort of like a girl pirate's treasure. hee hee Love them! Rustic and awesome!
These are marvellous, Deborah!! I love everything about them - you need to get them up on Etsy pronto!!
While I don't go through the same processes, I've also gravitated away from quilt-making to working with other things. I just think we have to follow what feels most fulfilling at the time. These are incredibly creative and beautiful pieces!
Beautiful jewelery but I wouldn't call them "trinkets" -smile-. Your work is enticing, whether quilts or jewelery; well done!
We share our research patterns, perusing blogs, books and then the studio.
Those are really cool....I love that you incorporate found objects....makes them truly unique....
"Trinkets" of the elegant kind I would say. Doesn't the slow making work the same way for the jewelry as it does for the quilts? It's all your influence and process. I really like what you are creating with your hands. xox Corrine
You are creating and that's ALL that is important. You are lost in the moment......letting your creative spirit out. Wonderful.

really lovely pieces...and it's all about pieces and how you put them together; be it cloth or treasures.
Nice pieces! Thanks.
Deborah your necklaces are so beautiful, love the colors.

I have always loved they way you include little pieces of this and that and history in your work, Deborah; whether it's quilts of necklaces, your creative energy makes beautiful results.
I think you should enjoy whatever it is that helps smoothing out the bumps in the road of life; your fabrics will wait for you as long as it takes. Swapping medium can be a great way to spice up your art.
Mmmhmmm. Lovely trinket you've made, Deborah. Enjoy your process. Quilting will be there when you are ready.
I LOVE YOUR BEAUTIFUL CREATIONS HERE....
more than a trinket...they are uniquely you!
BEAUTIFUL!
happy crafting, beading, quilting and creating!
