hands and spirals

hands and spirals seem to be a common theme. the wip has a companion piece that was completed and given to a friend in New York. the hands were created to send to Houston but i never did

wip: pinwheels

This is another small piece I started years ago. I think I was trying to make some kind of pinwheel design, working with tiny triangles.

wip and woods

While most of the weekend was spent walking through the woods, celebrating my mother's 85th birthday, and reconnecting with old friends, I did spend some time working on a small postcard-sized quilt.

wip:log cabin square

I'm thinking of finishing this as one small quilt instead of adding to it.

It is a lovely fall day, with an occasional red-turning leaf and a continued abundance of marigolds.

wip: double nine patch

laurel blocks

blocks and pieces i've been working on, using some Laurel Burch fabric. these have been ignored on my design wall for awhile but i think they might make a good fall project

wavy spirals

I've always liked spirals. When I was in junior high I used to doodle them in my school notebooks. Now I use them in quilts. And yes, this is an irregularly shaped small quilt, not square but wavy.

studio straightening time

overnight guests are scheduled to arrive next week to celebrate my mother's 85th birthday. it's time to clean my studio and transform it into a guest room for my brother.

atc with coils completed

a rainy dreary day today and everyone i talked to said they were depressed. i did finish the binding on the atc i posted this morning and added some sparkly blue czech beads that don't show up particularly well in any of the photos i took.

wip: atc with coils

The colors haven't come out exactly right in this photo but this is one in a stack of wip atc's currently on my worktable.

adding and subtracting circles

I keep adding and subtracting circles. I started out with washers and other stuff from the hardware store and some beads including a vintage lucite circle. I've subtracted a couple of flimsier circles and am contemplating whether or not the project is complete.

change of plans

originally planned for a project a friend and i are working on, i'm so glad she changed her mind and decided we needed strips of fabric instead of circles because as i was fiinishing hemming these last night i thought i might really rather applique them into/onto a quilt

yo yo blooms

This is a piece where i was playing around with yo-yo's as suggestions of blossoming flowers. It would probably make more sense if the photo was rotated but i haven't figured out how to do that yet.

some ATCs

some artist trading cards from earlier this year. I also have a small stack that need binding or new binding since some of my experiments with alternate types of bindings haven't worked out exactly the way I had in mind so will try to redo them.

this one is tiny

scissors, tape, stapler, trash

Today is a rainy cold dreary day and while I'd rather curl up with Dalla and take a nap or read a book, I'm going to try to at least clean off my desk.

wip: lady

I've already started adding some beads to the top and batting, before adding the backing. Am in the process of selecting the backing and am leaning towards yellow. Then I plan to add more beads and/or embellishments.

wip: pockets to hearts

a current project involves converting a collection of "pockets" into hearts that will be appliqued onto an as-of-yet-undecided background. during the process i started coming across old doilies and other linens at local thrift shops and plan to also incorporate them into the quilt.

altered books

I've been admiring the Hilton Head altered book at http://www.artisticartifacts.com/blog/. I’ve been doing something similar for several years and have done books for trips to Maine, Duck (NC), Paris and Vienna. Sometimes I use blank books and sometimes I alter used books. I’ve found books with quotes with a lot of blank space on the pages to be particularly useful and sometimes the quotes are even appropriate. Mine aren’t as colorful as Judy's since they were created during the actual vacations and I was working with materials restricted to airline carryon. Looking at Judy's I’m thinking maybe I should have worked on them after I returned home. Now, if I ever get to go on vacation again . . .
