This little piece was my first (and so far only) attempt at sashiko. I had put it aside after completing it because I was disappointed with the result but since I did enjoy it I may try again.
I think that even sashiko professionals would do uneven stitching if they weren't preparing the stitching with drawn lines or templates, I guess. Nobody can stitch perfectly straight without help of a sketch. And the fabric seems to be difficult. Yet it is beautiful!
it looks neat! you will probably start to like it more and more as you do it, just like anything we do we become better as we become more willing to experiment with the lines etc. hope you post more of it. and i love your colorful work too, ive been browsing your blog and love your header photo too.
I love it. I am sure if the stitches were done on a large piece you would not be worrying about unevenness. But, of course you don't work on a large scale.

It looks wonderful to me....but I love the big showy stitches of sashiko....show it off baby, show it all off...VBG
I LOVE LOVE sashiko!!! Keep going! ; )
Hi Deb! I have been itching to try sashiko for quite some time. Why weren't you happy with your results?? This looks pretty cool to me.
Thanks! I followed specific patterns for the quilting and wasn't happy with the unevenness of my stitching.

I like it. I'm not as close to it as you are so I'm not seeing what you don't like but I like it. :)Bea
Have fun with it!
looks detailed and because it is on the surface adds texture and interest
Sashiko is on my to-do list. It looks like fun and there are such lovely designs.
It's very beautiful, and stitched beautifully you should be very proud.
Maybe you're being too tough on yourself. It looks really nice in this picture.
P.S. Happy New Year.

It looks beautiful to me. What don't you like about it? What could you change. It's a great piece!
Have a lovely Sunday

Didn't mean to sound negative... Yes, keep sashikoeing!
I think it looks pretty cool! Even if you feel it has uneven stitches, it looks like a pretty consistant piece and I love the character that it has:)
It looks like fun and it's very lovely.
stitches never disappoint me. they hold the fabric and that is all that counts.
You did a great job! You should definitely keep on practicing!
Happy sewing!
