This is a wall hanging I made a few years ago. This fairly traditional design is Bear's Paw or Hand of Friendship. There may also be other names for it. It's interesting how the same patterns were used throughout the country and had different names depending upon local cultures. The fabric I used is actually more disparate than it seems at first glance. I think I may have matched up similar fabrics too closely. At least one of the reds is from an old duster of mine from childhood. As I'm writing this I'm thinking, why were they called dusters (for wearing while dusting the house?) and how names of items of clothing change as well as names of quilts.

Knowing that you hand piece...this is wonderful! I think we are all connected by our stashes. I seem to see my own stash coming and going as I visit various blogs. For instance on this bear paw quilt...second row, second block...yep...it was once a part of my stash too! (grin)
Love your header and love this little Bear Claw piece. I suppose you had a "housedress" while you worked in your house, a "duster" to wear when you tackled those sparklie things, high up, an apron when you cooked and cocktail dress when you drank? Well, all that gave me a chuckle. :)Bea
I think quilts and quilters are amazing-- many years ago before I started painting I thought I would try quilting-- I loved buying the fabrics, sorting them, cutting them into shapes--had trunks full--- but never never made even one little quilt-- never interested in the sewing aspect of it all--- decided I should probably not be a quilter :-)
Well, I don't know about a duster on you, but I am short, so a duster might just be dusting that floor on me! One way to collect all of those dust bunnies! LOL
What a sweet little wall hanging, regardless of it's name or pattern design. ; )
