past imperfect

Last week I made some progress on Mrs. Moen's tcc. The base is an embroidered tablecloth and I've added vintage 9-patch blocks and crocheted doilies. I'm thinking of it as an "imperfect past" since most of the items used are vintage, handmade, and imperfect.

Ironically the day beforeour lovely tree lost a huge limb due to heavy wind, I was outside photographing it and the snowball tree in the backyard.

I love using all the white doilies! I find doilies to be such a symbol of women's unstoppable, creative energy. They can be found absolutely everywhere and each one has a story....

Happy Belated Mother's Day!!! Oh how I love this beautiful tablecloth you are working on. I read about Mrs. Moen's challenged from your blog a while back and was oh so tempted - but the few (only 2) vintage table cloths I have are so very beautiful (stitched much like the one you are using with yellow flowers) I can't bare to alter it. I almost went thrift store shopping to find one to do. But I never did that - so I will sit back and enjoy watching what you do with yours. It's coming along quite beautifully!

Your table cloth project in progress looks wonderful, Deborah. I love how you have added more pieces of history onto it and am looking forward to see how it grows and changes. I too have a soft spot for doilies; my grandmother used to crochet them and taught me how to do it.

This looks great Deborah, it has a nice antique feel to it even with the new additions as if you were sprucing up the original. The doilies really make it sing.

imperfections are an asian aesthetic called wabi sabi-- as they find beauty in imperfections- like your quilt.

Deborah I really like what you do with this tablecloth, the 9-patch blocks and crocheted doilies fits perfect to the fine embroidery there is on the tablecloth, wonderful work.

These vintage parts look so great together, they tell a story.

Hope your tree is fine, and not damaged too much.
