pieces from the past

The other day when I was at a friend's house, while I was waiting for her to get ready for us to go out, I took some photos of this little quilt I gave her several years ago. She keeps it in her living room, across the back of a chair. I hadn't really looked at it in a long time. I recognize pieces from my husband's wornout ties, old prom and party dresses that I bought at thrift stores for my girls to use for playing dressup, some bits of reupholstery fabric left over from recovering dining room chairs.

How wonderful if must feel to be able to look at a piece you did and have memories of where and when the fabrics and clothing were worn and used..

That's a nice little crazy quilt, Deborah. It must feel good to visit a friend and see that a gift you gave is placed in a prominent location!

How wonderful to revisit your older work, and see it put on display like that! I love a quilt made with memories!

It's gorgeous. I've never tried a crazy quilt but I love them.

Such rediscoveries only happen if you gave something away, a rewarding effect.
Cute little quilt!

Right, it wouldn't look the same if I hadn't given it away. And the context would have been totally different. I've always been glad that I've given away most of the quilts I've made and now this just reinforces it.
